Bower & Branch is a rapidly scaling e-commerce startup rooted in the "Green," or garden, industry. The company demonstrated success in scaling with an efficient operations model and product/market fit, but was striving to achieve clear strategy and financing for growth.

Timeframe: January 2017 - May 2017

Summary:

In fall 2016, startup Bower & Branch approached the Econogy Talent Group (ETG) for immediate support - the challenge: refining market strategy to maximize growth potential and to secure the next round of investment, all while maintaining mission values of the founding team.

Econogy Talent Group (ETG) quickly assembled an interdisciplinary team including respected design faculty, local "growth hacking" experts, and top talent from the University of Cincinnati & Xavier University. The ETG Team used our Pathways Framework to build a deep understanding of the company and its market context, then used that knowledge to identify several sustainable pathways to scale. As a result of our team's work, the company found a clear strategic direction, landed an initial investment over $300k and was prepared to complete raising the next round of investment.

Problem:

Bower & Branch designed a platform that enables online sales for the green industry and its consumers. Having already proven the model by hitting its 2016 sales goals, the company faced the challenge of expanding beyond the minimum viable product, an objective that they realized would require additional investments.

Solution:

ETG and its partners used the Pathways Framework to guide Bower & Branch through series of analyses designed to engage investors and raise funds for strategic growth. The collaborative nature of the project allowed the project team to co-create the finished product with Bower & Branch leadership.  These solutions allowed the leadership to make a powerful case for investment -- and identified ways that the company could grow its own revenues faster.

Results:

  1. Executed Pathways Framework to develop strategic analysis and multiple pathways for scale

  2. Selected pathway to build out as Action Plan

  3. Created a storyline and 3 Pitch Decks for fundraising (Investor, Sales, Partner)

  4. Prepared Bower and Branch team to attain investors, strategic partners and strategic clients according to selected pathway for scale

  5. Over $300k additional funds raised to date
